The Dawn of a New Year

Another One Gone....
Lot's of family came to visit and we celebrated my newest Granddaughter's birthday as well, she was born Christmas Day. Bob's Son Michael was there too and was just discharged from the Marines after serving one tour in Iraq. He suffered a severed tendon from jumping from a plane and he had to be discharged on a medical release.
It is now on to Harmony's birthday (today) and then New Year's and then Emilie's birthday (1/4) and then I hope to have things get back to normal. I have not had any time to spend in the studio and I should have some of the much anticipated pieces ready by the middle of January.
The time ahead will be full of challenges with our entry into Capricorn. Things will change and we need to learn to ride the waves the best we can. Be prepared for those that are figure posts in our lives to potentially leave for other journeys and others to join us in the journey ahead.

May you rest in peace....
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that petgoes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Secrets......
This one really brought it home for me after 19 years of being terribly unhappy I left. I wasted my best years or did I?

Well, it looks like I get to make something for you this time! For those of you that don't know, Kelly has made a number of things for our home in replacement of things that were destroyed in the tornado. I am honored to have the opportunity to reciprocate.
I will be holding a similar contest once a month so watch for the next one in January for another chance.

Flight of the Moon Series
I don't think I have mentioned our past series called "Flight of the Moon" series and each of these special beads is in honor of each lunar month. Here we have Flight of the 5th Moon and Flight of the 7th Moon (Flight of the 4th Moon has already sold).
Each of these holds a special place for me being a child of the Moon and it's symbolism is something very important.
These are all Limited Edition which means that there is only one bead per month and once all 12 are done there will be no more.

Finally - The First Sacred Tree - The Mighty Oak
I have had quite a bit of trial and error with this series but I finally got it and am very proud to introduce the first entry in the 13 Sacred Trees Series. This pendant is representative of The Mighty Oak which belongs to the lunar month falling between June 10 and July 7th. To learn more of the background of the 13 Sacred Trees please go here:
http://heavenandearthdesigns.blogspot.com/2008/11/13-sacred-tree-calendar.html
To complete this piece is a fine silver hand formed charm featuring a swirl which is the universal symbol for the Circle of Life. The oak image is fired into the glass with 22k gold and makes a very ethereal statement with the background of the glass.
We hope that you enjoy this entry and we will be offering the Holly next which is for the lunar month between July 8th through August 4th.

Something fun....
The earrings were fun to make and I love the disks of sterling silver with the etching of the sunflower. The contrast of the coral red and the variations of the blues in the turquoise gives these earrings a lovely feel of both modern and rustic.

On another note Spencer came home last night and here is a pic of the poor guy. He looks pretty sad here but you can tell that he feels so much better. Along with him came a battery of things that go in almost every orrifice he has and twice a day no less.
He is a very good boy and as decided that Harmony is his human and follows her everywhere.
Here are some of the other animals that we rescued: This is Fancy - a simply gorgeous Morgan mare, or at least will be again.

A New Beginning...
The Vet just called and Spencer (Standard Poodle) will be undergoing surgery today, he will be neutered, teeth cleaned and ears cleaned and then will be able to come home tomorrow. He estimated that he had about 10% of his vision and no hearing due to the encrusted ears and eyes. It amazes me that people can allow animals to get to this level of degradation. My heart goes out to the animals that have suffered through this but there is light with the rescue efforts that were made over the last couple of days. Alot of folks came together to help and it was all because of Becky, I think she deserves a heartfelt "Thank you", I know the animals are thinking it in their own way.
Another dear friend is going to take the Llama and the goat so they will have a good home as well.
As for life getting back to normalcy, I am hoping to have the Sacred Trees and Winter's Palette releases up this weekend instead. I have quite a bit of photography that still needs to be done so bear with me.

For the Love of Animals....
She asked if I could help in the rescue effort so we headed down the road Saturday evening and brought back a Standard Poodle, PekiPom and American Eskimo. These poor dogs were in the worse shape I have seen in my life. I spent 4 hours on the Poodle and managed to get the mat (yes mat, not mats) off of him in one piece and it weighed over 5 pounds. His one eye is encrusted with goop and he can't open it and the other eye is not far behind. His ears are so encrusted that I don't believe he can hear very well either. He is only 1 year old and such a beautiful boy and very well behaved. When I had removed the mat he was prancing all over the house like he had been set free. The PekiPom is a dearheart and obedience trained and does tricks, he was in near shape to Spencer too but not as bad.
The American Eskimo threatened to bite so I just left him alone for a bit but then came around. He then ended up deciding that I was his protector and just wanted to be in my lap. All these dogs were in outside runs with no water, no food and -10 at night.
Once things settle down again I will get back to getting the photos done and listed. Have a wonderful week everyone!

Baroque with a Twist?
Hi everyone! I have been madly working up designs between custom orders and I would like to share "Baroque" with you.
This lovely necklace features a focal stone in a rectangle of Kyanite that is accented with freshwater pearls, garnets and then turquoise for a bit of a twist.
Kyanite: Some say Kyanite enhances creativity, broadens perspectives, and helps achieve mutual understanding.
Turquoise: Sacred to both Native American and Oriental traditions, this stone helps to connect with spirit and brings the energy of the sky down to earth. It is helpful in expanding awareness while still maintaining practicality. Turquoise moves the wearer toward integration and wholeness. Used on the throat chakra, turquoise promotes communication and the ability to speak honestly, clearly and from the heart, and reminds us of our connection to Earth and Sky. Ancient lore suggests that it also protects against environmental pollutants. In ancient times, turquoise was utilized to gain wealth. Wearing turquoise can speed the healing process. Lore also has it that the stone will change color, warning when the owner is in danger.
Garnet: It is believed that if a garnet is put under a pillow it will cure depression. Garnets can be used to make a person popular and have self-esteem when worn as jewelry.
Freshwater Pearl: It is believed they produce endurance and emotional stability and are beneficial to lungs. Freshwater pearls enable one to accept great love, and stand for purity, beauty and compassion.

Ladders - Totems?
I have always admired ladder necklaces/witch ladder necklaces or whatever term they are referred to these days. This particular piece has alot of elements and features a cherry red lampwork bead suspended from a handmade sterling silver cone and then rests upon a floral bead cap.
The chain is seeded with turquoise, sterling round beads, lampwork beads which all create the ladder effect.
Suspended in a twin fashion is a simple copper freeform bead topped with a sterling round bead and then a small turquoise bead in between for contrast.

Thanks Comes in Many Different Forms..
Last night I was working on the Sacred Trees series and ran across two disc beads that I have had for quite some time. The significance was that I only had two and I decided to put them together to form a bracelet. Since two of the horses are coming home Thanksgiving day it was very appropriate.
This piece has sold :-(
I am close to having the Sacred Trees done and still working on a few elements and I am very excited to share this concept in glass with you. Have a wonderful week and be sure to give thanks!

Blue, Bleu, Blew and more Blou
Water Garden:
This focal sports a new to me technique where there are multiple layers of glass dots laid down with some reaction glass as the final layer producing a tulip like effect, very cool! I should have named this piece Pretty Maids All in a Row as that it what comes to mind when I see it.
Well, the weekend is here, enjoy it and keep an eye out for Sacred Trees. We are destined to barn work this weekend in the effort of bringing 2 of our 3 horses home. It has been a long road since the tornado and almost 5 months since the event so this will be one of the last healing steps that we need to take.

13 Sacred Trees
The Druids discovered the magickal properties of each tree, and codified all the information into the system we have today. The trees the Druids selected for the thirteen months were already trees which were sources of magick and myth in Celtic folklore. Several of the trees are said to be attractive to faery folk, and others were sources of magick herbs or medicines. Today the counting of the Celtic tree calendar begins with the full moon nearest Yule. Perhaps it once began with the full moon nearest Samhain since, until the influence of the Norse, Samhain marked the beginning of the Celtic New Year.
Birch Moon: December 24 - January 20:
The Birch Moon is a time of rebirth and regeneration. As the Solstice passes, it is time to look towards the light once more. When a forested area burns, Birch is the first tree to grow back. The Celtic name for this month is Beth, pronounced beh. Workings done in this month add momentum and a bit of extra "oomph" to new endeavors. The Birch is also associated with magic done for creativity and fertility, as well as healing and protection. Tie a red ribbon around the trunk of a Birch tree to ward off negative energy. Hang Birch twigs over a cradle to protect a newborn from psychic harm. Use Birch bark as magical parchment to keep writings safe.
Rowan Moon: January 21 - February 17:
The Rowan Moon is associated with Brighid, the Celtic goddess of hearth and home. Honored on February 1, at Imbolc, Brighid is a fire goddess who offers protection to mothers and families, as well as watching over the hearthfires. This is a good time of year to perform initations (or, if you're not part of a group, do a self-dedication). Known by the Celts as Luis (pronounced loush), the Rowan is associated with astral travel, personal power, and success. A charm carved into a bit of a Rowan twig will protect the wearer from harm. The Norsemen were known to have used Rowan branches as rune staves of protection. In some countries, Rowan is planted in graveyards to prevent the dead from lingering around too long.
Ash Moon: February 18 - March 17:
In the Norse eddas, Yggdrasil, the world tree, was an Ash. The spear of Odin was made from the branch of this tree, which is also known by the Celtic name Nion, pronounced knee-un. This is one of three trees sacred to the Druids (Ash, Oak and Thorn), and this is a good month to do magic that focuses on the inner self. Associated with ocean rituals, magical potency, prophetic dreams and spiritual journeys, the Ash can be used for making magical (and mundane) tools -- these are said to be more productive than tools made from other wood. If you place Ash berries in a cradle, it protects the child from being taken away as a changeling by mischevious Fae.
Alder Moon: March 18 - April 14:
At the time of the Spring Equinox, or Ostara, the Alder is flourishing on riverbanks, roots in the water, bridging that magical space between both heaven and earth. The Alder month, called Fearn by the Celts, and pronounced fairin, is a time for making spiritual decisions, magic relating to prophecy and divination, and getting in touch with your own intuitive processes and abilities. Alder flowers and twigs are known as charms to be used in Faerie magic. Whistles were once made out of Alder shoots to call upon Air spirits, so it's an ideal wood for making a pipe or flute if you're muscially inclined.
Willow Moon: April 15 - May 12:
The Willow moon was known to the Celts as Saille, pronounced Sahl-yeh. The Willow grows best when there's lots of rain, and in northern Europe there's no shortage of that this time of year. This is a tree associated with healing and growth, for obvious reasons. A Willow planted near your home will help ward away danger, particularly the type that stems from natural disaster such as flooding or storms. They offer protection, and are often found planted near cemeteries. This month, work on rituals involving healing, growth of knowledge, nurturing and women's mysteries.
Hawthorn Moon: May 13 - June 9:
The Hawthorn is a prickly sort of plant with beautiful blossoms. Called Huath by the ancient Celts, and pronounced Hoh-uh, the Hawthorn month is a time of fertility, masculine energy, and fire. Coming right on the heels of Beltane, this month is a time when male potency is high -- if you're hoping to conceive a child, get busy this month! The Hawthorn has a raw, phallic sort of energy about it -- use it for magic related to masculine power, business decisions, making professional connections. The Hawthorn is also associated with the realm of Faerie, and when the Hawthorn grows in tandem with an Ash and Oak, it is said to attract the Fae.
Oak Moon: June 10 - July 7:
The Oak moon falls during a time when the trees are beginning to reach their full blooming stages. The mighty Oak is strong, powerful, and typically towering over all of its neighbors. The Oak King rules over the summer months, and this tree was sacred to the Druids. The Celts called this month Duir, which some scholars believe to mean "door", the root word of "Druid". The Oak is connceted with spells for protection and strength, fertility, money and success, and good fortune. Carry an acorn in your pocket when you go to an interview or business meeting; it will be bring you good luck. If you catch a falling Oak leaf before it hits the ground, you'll stay healthy the following year.
Holly Moon: July 8 - August 4:
Although the Oak ruled in the previous month, its counterpart, the Holly, takes over in July. This evergreen plant reminds us all year long about the immortality of nature. The Holly moon was called Tinne, pronounced chihnn-uh, by the Celts, who knew the potent Holly was a symbol of masculine energy and firmness. The ancients used the wood of the Holly in the construction of weapons, but also in protective magic. Hang a sprig of Holly in your house to ensure good luck and safety to your family. Wear as a charm, or make Holly Water by soaking leaves overnight in spring water under a full moon -- then use the water as a blessing to sprinkle on people or around the house for protection and cleansing.
Hazel Moon: August 5 - September 1:
The Hazel Moon was known to the Celts as Coll, which translates to "the life force inside you". This is the time of year when Hazelnuts are appearing on the trees, and are an early part of the harvest. Hazelnuts are also associated with wisdom and protection. Hazel is often associated in Celtic lore with sacred wells and magical springs containing the salmon of knowledge. This is a good month to do workings related to wisdom and knowledge, dowsing and divination, and dream journeys. If you're a creative type, such as an artist, writer, or musician, this is a good month to get your muse back, and find inspiration for your talents. Even if you normally don't do so, write a poem or song this month.
Vine Moon: September 2 - September 29:
The Vine month is a time of great harvest -- from the grapes of the Mediterranean to the fruits of the northern regions, the Vine produces fruits we can use to make that most wondrous concoction called wine. The Celts called this month Muin. The Vine is a symbol of both happiness and wrath -- passionate emotions, both of them. Do magical workings this month connected to the Autumn Equinox, or Mabon, and celebrate garden magic, joy and exhilaration, wrath and rage, and the darker aspect of the mother goddess. Use the leaves of the Vines to enhance your own ambition and goals. during this month. The month of Vine is also a good time to get balanced, as there are equal hours of darkness and light.
Perhaps you can see where we are going with this theme and all I can say is, stay tuned for some upcoming interesting pieces.

Well, the inevitable has arrived and I have to admit that the first snow fall is also so precious and also reminiscent of new beginnings. For us, that is so true! I walked out the front door this morning and the landscape was so different in white, beautiful and haunting...

Isn't that the truth! I have been working on a new design concept using handmade "story beads" that I bought from the lovey shop FieldandSea. I wanted to utilize these delicate little beads in a way that they were not overtaken by the surrounding metals and stones. I am very pleased with this new concept and here is 1 of several designs that is now in our shop on Etsy:
It looks like Summer is finally over, we have been graced with temps in the 60's and 70's and today we start to slide into the 40's with snow possible Saturday. I am not looking forward to the cold but at least there is more time spent in the studio.
The project for this week is "Marriage of Metals" and wait until you see what we have up our sleeves. I will say that it involves the subject matter of rings, silver, brass and gold all soldered in an interesting effect my moi.....
Have an awesome Thursday peeps and do something good for someone today.

Well, here we go into the light of creation and documenting it the whole way. I have spent the last several years perfecting my craft of melting glass in various forms and I feel compelled to shout out about it now.
Thus the creation of this blog. We will be offering some new and unique things that I believe will be quite intriguing. Starting off this procession will be the opportunity to win a piece of jewelry designed by moi!
Our designs are organic in nature and have an edge of the delicate side of nature as well as her moments of torment and anguish. We feature nothing but the best, Fine Silver and gemstones from afar and we always always only create items that are different and fresh.
Our designs are handmade entirely featuring handmade clasps where appropriate and hand forged metals with a twist on the usual and a smoothing to the unusual.
